Check Out These Great Opportunities to Serve with Connecting Streams

WHAT is Connecting Streams?
Connecting Streams is a ministry arm of Power to Change (formerly Campus Crusade), that was started in the Edmonton area in 2009. Our mission is to equip and mobilize believers to follow Jesus into a broken and hurting world. Our teams purposefully present the gospel, love those we encounter, and initiate and cultivate discipleship relationships. Hurting and marginalized people are often more aware of their need for God’s love than self-sufficient people are. In 2014, just over 100 Connecting Streams volunteers had the exciting privilege of leading 291 people to faith in Jesus Christ. Regular weekly visits allow for ongoing discipleship of these new believers.

HOW does volunteering with Connecting Streams work?
Volunteers join ministry teams that go to institutions such as prisons, long term care centers, emergency shelters and addiction residences. Trained team leaders work together with their team members to create ministry sessions that are led by the Holy Spirit and resonate with their ministry audience. Because of this, the format of ministry sessions vary from team to team, but common denominators are:

  • each team’s ministry is centered around the sharing of a Biblical message and discussion
  • sometimes video or music is used to complement
  • usually there is time for visiting, conversation and prayer

DO volunteers need special skills?

  • No.
  • You do not need to be a skilled group leader. You do not need to be a talented singer. You do not need to have all the answers.
  • You may be thinking: “I have never shared the gospel with anyone", “I want to do this, but I am terrified", or “I don’t think I have anything to offer.”
  • That’s okay.
  • If you want to obey Jesus by “loving the Lord your God, and loving your neighbour” then there is a place for you to volunteer with Connecting Streams.
  • Our volunteers go in teams, so you are never on your own. We also provide support, prayer and training to help equip you.

OTHER THINGS you should know

  • Unless specified, volunteers can be male or female
  • Volunteers must be 18 years old, with the exception of the Young Offenders’ Center, where you must be 21 years old.
  • Volunteers are required to complete all components of our volunteer application form and obtain a police record check.
  • A weekly commitment to the team is emphasized in order to best serve those we minister to, as well as other team members.
