TEACHING RECAP

Summary: In the first few verses of John 2 we get the first of seven signs in the Gospel of John. It happens while Jesus was at a wedding in Cana and it's not by chance it happens in this setting. It's here we get a glimpse of who Jesus is and, in light of Him and what happens here, a glimpse of who God is. What do we learn about God? We learn that He takes great joy in being with us, He is always revealing Himself, and He is generous.

Main Points:

  1. He Takes Great Joy In Being With Us

  2. He Is Always Revealing Himself To Us

  3. He Is Generous

On-Ramps:

  • Don't get tired of meeting together

  • Take time to notice Him everyday

  • Keep believing and asking for your practical and spiritual needs

  • The Lord's Prayer is a great place to start

Discussion

  • What stands out to you from this passage? How does this passage most challenge or encourage you?

  • WORD:

    • Is it easy, hard, normal, or abnormal for you to think of God as having great joy? Why?

    • There are a lot of hyperlinks and symbolism in this passage (wine, wedding, ceremonial pots, etc.). Take some time to list what you can find. Are there one or two that stick out to you?

  • WORLD:

    • God takes great joy in being with us. What implications does that have on those in our lives who don’t know Jesus yet?

    • Our world enjoys, in excess, things that numb us to reality. Jesus meets us in our loss and want and offers himself. How does this affect the way we pray and live in our society?

  • LIVES:

    • As you pray through the Lord’s prayer, what do you discover about God?

    • Where do you lack? Pray that God will provide.

  • How do you want to respond to this passage in your daily life?

PRAYER

  • How can we pray for you as a group?

  • Next week: John 2:13-24
