TEACHING RECAP

Summary: Jesus’ resurrection is unremarkable to believers and unreasonable to skeptics. Yet it is at the heart of Christianity, impacting more people than any other movement in history. On this Easter Sunday we’ll try to see it with fresh vision and answer some very basic questions. Does belief in the resurrection matter? Is it reasonable? Is it helpful?

Main Points:

  1. Does it matter? Due to the impact of Christianity and the written accounts of Jesus’ life and teaching, each person should at least consider the possibility of the resurrection.

  2. Is it reasonable? It is not unreasonable to believe that Jesus rose from the dead.

  3. Is it helpful? Belief in Jesus’ resurrection can produce perspective, strength and hope.

On-Ramps:

  • If you are a follower of Jesus, participate fully and joyfully in his community, and share the hope with humility and respect.

  • If you are seeking, try obeying Jesus’ teaching and see what happens.

  • If you are skeptical, read or listen to intelligent Christians talking about their faith.

Discussion

  • What stands out to you from this passage? How does this passage most challenge or encourage you?

  • WORD:

    • The Resurrection account that shows up in the Gospels is held by many people as a true, eye witness account. The Apostle Paul shared this conviction. Read 1 Corinthians 15:12-28. How important is the resurrection of Jesus according to this passage?

  • WORLD:

    • The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus has changed the world and we are seeing the impact of it still today. Jeremy said that all people need to wrestle with this truth. Where in our society do you see the impact of Jesus? Where do you see the truth of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus needed in our world?

    • Where do you see your part in helping people encounter and wrestle with the Gospel?

  • LIVES:

    • Our lives are filled with struggle and suffering. That is part of life. How do you see the resurrection power of Jesus at work in your life in the midst of all this suffering?

    • How does the hope of the Gospel affect your thinking towards the struggle and suffering that you are experiencing in this life?

  • How do you want to respond to this passage in your daily life?

PRAYER

  • How can we pray for you as a group?

  • Next week: Proverbs 3:5-6, 13-18, 4:7
